Traffic Tips for Online Marketing

Sunday, May 23rd, 2010

In case you’ve been living in a vacuum, most people use their websites as their business model for making money. Of course, you can’t let your website stay hidden in the closet, people have to find it. All those folks who visit your site and love it are collectively called, traffic – website traffic, search engine traffic, etc. It’s a numbers game, more traffic equals more sales – generally speaking. The big goal here is to get as much traffic as possible so you can make as much cash as possible. Next on the agenda… talk about getting more traffic to your site – the rest is up to you.

It’s a good idea to submit your site to the secondary search engines, but avoid doing that with the major search engines using their submission form. The reason for this is that it can take much longer than necessary, and you can get at least your home page indexed in Google very quickly using social media methods. Submitting your site, manually, to the smaller engines will take a little time, but not a huge amount. This serves two purposes, you’ll get traffic from them and they will contribute something to your site’s overall popularity as understood by Google’s algorithm. There are tons of ways to get backlinks, and some are certainly more valuable than others. You don’t want all high PR, high-power backlinks because Google recognizes that as unnatural, so having a good variety will make things look more normal, and natural.

Create a PPC campaign.

Set your spending limits to what you can afford. PPC campaigns can bring you lots of traffic if you set them up with the right key words and write good ads.

The most popular Pay Per Click campaign builder is Google Adwords. If you know what you’re doing, you can get huge amounts of traffic with Adwords and similar services. Remember, you want your ad to be entertaining and enticing so that people will click on it!

Find some newsletters in your niche area. Contact them and go slowly, but what you eventually want to do is contribute some content, or articles, to their newsletter. You’re not doing this for direct payment, you’re doing it for exposure of your name and your website to the audience. You’ll find a lot of publishers will agree to this if your content is good and well-written. And if it all goes well, you could end up with a good writing gig.

Some marketers have trouble deciding what traffic generating tools or strategies to focus on, as there are so many to choose from. You don’t have to narrow it down to a single method, though; there’s no reason why you can’t use several techniques at once. You don’t have to work at these traffic generating techniques all day; in an hour or two daily you can learn how to bring thousands of visitors per month to your site! Some of these visitors will become buyers!
